Data corruption is the damage of info caused by various software or hardware problems. After a file gets damaged, it will no longer work properly, so an app will not start or shall give errors, a text file can be partially or completely unreadable, an archive will be impossible to open then unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of data getting harmed without any acknowledgement by the system or an admin, which makes it a serious problem for web hosting servers as fails are more likely to happen on bigger hard disks where substantial volumes of info are located. When a drive is part of a RAID and the data on it is duplicated on other drives for redundancy, it is likely that the bad file will be treated as a good one and will be copied on all drives, making the harm permanent. A huge number of the file systems which operate on web servers nowadays often cannot detect corrupted files in real time or they need time-consuming system checks during which the server is not operational.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting
We warrant the integrity of the data uploaded in each and every cloud hosting account which is made on our cloud platform since we employ the advanced ZFS file system. The latter is the only one that was designed to prevent silent data corruption thanks to a unique checksum for each and every file. We shall store your info on multiple NVMe drives that work in a RAID, so the exact same files will be accessible on several places simultaneously. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all of the files on all the drives in real time and in case the checksum of any file differs from what it has to be, the file system replaces that file with an undamaged copy from another drive within the RAID. No other file system uses checksums, so it is easy for data to get silently corrupted and the bad file to be replicated on all drives with time, but since this can never happen on a server running ZFS, you don't have to concern yourself with the integrity of your information.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you buy one of our semi-dedicated hosting solutions, you won't have to worry about silent file corruption as we use ZFS - a high level file system that checks all the files in real time. Whenever you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between multiple NVMe drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take over. ZFS compares the checksum of all of the copies on the different drives and if it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from a different drive. This happens in real time, so there will be no danger for any part of your content at any moment. In contrast, alternative file systems perform checks after a system breakdown, but since they do not use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they are unable to detect silently corrupted files, so a corrupted copy could be replicated on the rest of the drives as well and you could lose critical info. As this is not the case with ZFS, we can guarantee the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
